Bariatric Surgery and Fertility

Bariatric surgery is a very effective method in the treatment of obesity-related comorbidities. One of these co-morbidities is infertility. Obesity increases the risk of problems associated with pregnancy. Bariatric Surgery is generally applied to women of childbearing age. Morbid obesity has been proven to reduce fertility. Polycystic ovary disease is more common in morbidly obese women and their fertility is lower. Women who have undergone bariatric surgery can have a normal delivery or a cesarean delivery. Women who have had Bariatric Surgery can breastfeed their babies.
